At Widcombe Infant School we believe that sharing experiences with others within our school, local and wider community is hugely beneficial to our children’s education. We are always keen to participate in, organise and host community events.

We are part of the Palladian Academy Trust and benefit from support from specialist PE teachers and also participate in events organised by the Palladian Academy Trust  such as a Reception Bean Bag Olympics and Year 2 Palladian Games.

For the last eight years we have hosted a ‘Sing As One’ singing morning for Year 1 children from schools across the Local Authority organised by our Music Subject Leader. This is an event where Year 1 children can come together to sing a selection of communal songs and also perform individual songs based around a theme. So far the themes have included ‘The Olympics’, ‘Our Wonderful World’, 'Healthy Me', 'Friendship', 'Animals' 'Musicals' and 'Maths'. The event has been very well attended and in June 2019 around 1,200 children were involved. We hope to run this event again after the pandemic.

In Spring 2014, there was an Art Exhibition held at the Holburne Museum in Bath where infant children’s Art work produced by children from a variety of infant schools was exhibited for our local and wider community to see. This event was  organised by our Art Subject Leader.

Annually, our Year 2 choir enjoy performing at Bath Abbey or the Forum for the Primary Schools' Advent Service. Our Year 2 children also visit Woodside Care Home each Christmas to entertain the residents with a mixture of Christmas songs, carols and readings.

We hold Annual Charity Days where the children participate in a variety of events to raise money for a charity close to the hearts of the children in our school. We are always very proud of the effort our children and their families put into raising as much money as possible for these charities. On our last Charity Day over £1,450 was raised for the Cancer Unit at the Bath Royal United Hospital.

We enjoy having very positive relationships with our local nursery Widcombe Acorns. It is always a pleasure to invite children from the nursery to come to our school for story sessions, play days and to watch our musical productions. We are also delighted when children from Widcombe CE Junior School also watch our productions.

‘Toddler Time’ sessions are held once a term, where younger siblings of children within our school are invited for a play session in the school hall, to give them the opportunity to meet other younger siblings and to familiarise themselves with the school and staff within it.

Widcombe Infant School is part of a collaboration of Infant Schools in the county of Bath and NE Somerset with Oldfield Park Infant School, Paulton Infant School, Twerton Infant School and Chandag Infant School. The collaboration network celebrates and shares excellent infant practice and promotes joint initiatives. Each term, one of the schools hosts an enrichment workshop for children from all five schools to attend. Children have taken part in a range of workshops including Art, Music, Forest School, Design Technology, Maths Code Breaking, PE, Drama and Animation. The workshops allow children from all five schools to work alongside each other and to extend their interests and talents. Teachers have also benefited from any development opportunities that the Union is providing. There has been a joint focus on the implementation of the National Curriculum and ongoing moderation of children's writing and mathematical work. School staff greatly value visiting other schools each year, when they can pick up fresh ideas, problem-solve common challenges and share best practice with colleagues. There is a genuine trust, respect and support at all levels within the Union which is benefiting staff, Headteachers and, most importantly, the children in the schools.
